Corporation

The State Government specified the area of Ulhasnagar as Larger Urban Area. The Municipal Corporation of the City of Ulhasnagar is a body corporate and has perpetual succession and a common seal and by such name may sue and be sued.
The Municipal Authorities charged with carrying out the provisions of Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act 1949 are.
  • A Corporation (General Body)
  • Standing Committe
  • Wards Committe
  • Municipal Commissioner

Constitution

Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation consists of: -
  • 76 numbers of Councillors elected directly from Ward Elections held in February 2007
  • 5 numbers of nominated Councillors having special knowledge or experience in Municipal Administration.
 

A Corporation of 81 Councillors constituted unless sooner dissolved shall continue for a period of five years from the date of 5th April 2007 appointed from its first Meeting and no longer. The Erstwhile Ulhasnagar Municipal Council was converted into Corporation w.e.f 21/10/96 and the Corporation for the first time constituted from the 5th April 1997, the date appointed for its first Meeting continued for the entire duration for a period of 5 years which ended on 4/4/2002.

The respective functions of the several Municipal Authorities shall be such as are specifically prescribed by as under BPMC Act 1949 except as otherwise expressly provided in BPMC Act 1949, the Municipal Government of the City vest in the Corporation.

Subject wherever it is in this BPMC Act expressly so directed to the approval or sanction of the Corporation or the Standing Committee and subject also to all other restrictions, limitations and conditions imposed by BPMC Act or any other law for the time being in force, the entire executive power for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of BPMC Act and of any other Act for the time being in force which imposes any duty or confers any power on the Corporation vest in the Commissioners who shall also :-

1. Perform all duties and exercise all the powers specifically imposed or conferred upon him by BPMC Act or by any other law for the time being in force.

2. Prescribe the duties of and exercise supervision and control over the acts and proceedings of all Municipal Officers other than the Municipal Secretary and Municipal Chief Auditor and the Municipal Officers and Servants immediate subordinate to them.

3. In any emergency take such immediate action for the service of safety of the public or the protection of the property of Corporation as the emergency shall appear to him to justify or to require not withstanding that such action cannot be taken under BPMC Act without the sanction, approval or authority of some other Municipal authority or State Government.
